Discovery Days in Dawson City
The Discovery Day long weekend is a unique Yukon holiday that celebrates the day gold was discovered at Bonanza Creek near Dawson City. Long weekend festivities make Dawson City the place to be. Come see historical street theatre, displays, food, and plenty of other special events.

A week of special events celebrating Dawson City including contests, movies, a parade, and much more! In August of 1896, George Carmack, his wife Kate Carmack, her brother Skookum Jim and their nephew Dawson Charlie discovered gold in what is now called Bonanza Creek. Soon after came one of the world's greatest gold rush stampedes; nearly 100,000 people attempting to strike it rich in the Klondike goldfields. This Discovery Day, come golf in the Klondike! Teams of four are invited to our annual 18-hole best-ball tournament, spread out over 3 days on our favourite weekend. With great prizes, good food and exceptional golfing; this is a weekend not to be missed. Registration is $300 per team and includes dinner, green fees, prizes and a great weekend in Dawson City! Authors on Eighth celebrates the works of prominent Yukon writers such as Robert Service, Jack London, and Pierre Berton. Visit the author’s homes on a walking tour and hear stories of their lives and works. If you are a writer, enter the writing contest. Winners will be announced on the walking tour.

Gear up and get the whole family ready for a weekend of fun and fastball! Teams from all over the North are welcome at the annual Discovery Days Fastball Tournament. Throughout the weekend, in addition to some quality fastball, fans and players can enjoy a concession, beer garden, lawn games, world-class heckling, and a home-run derby! The Horticultural Exhibition is the place to see the delicious and impressive stuff that gets grown or made right here in Dawson City! Held on Discovery Days weekend, the Horticultural Exhibition shows off the best that Dawson’s green-thumbs have to offer. Categories expand to more than just gardens too.
