MAYOR’S WELCOME TO FARO
Whether travelling east or west, the first
view of Faro from the Campbell Highway
is something magical. You see a small
community nestled on the south facing
slope of the majestic Mount Mye. Other
than the road coming to the community,
there is little evidence any development has
happened. There are vast wilderness trails
that one can explore for short outings, day
trips or even longer. Our small population
means we still have great fishing and hunting
spots surrounding us with easy access from
anywhere in town.
From the early 1970’s through to the late
1990’s, Faro was often the second largest
community in the Yukon. We’re much smaller
now with a population of just over 600
persons but we like being a small town where
everyone looks after each other. If you notice
complete strangers waving as you drive by,
that’s just the friendly nature of our small
community. Whether you’re planning to come
for a visit or perhaps making Faro home, you
will feel welcome and understand why we
chose to live here.
