INUVIK
TUK
From a one-day road trip to multi-day escapes,
Tuktoyaktuk offers a breath of fresh air
in the Arctic Ocean breeze!
A Quick One Day
This one-day road trip
takes you along the
Inuvik-Tuk Highway
(ITH) to the Arctic Ocean
in Tuktoyaktuk. As you
admire views of the rolling
Tundra, you will notice the
treeline disappearing. Stop
for a selfie in front of the
last tree you see on your
way to the end of the road!
Take a break at the Pingo
Pullout where you can
learn about the history of
the pingos. Continue to
the Pingo Day Use Area to
make use of the pavilion,
fire pits, wood fire BBQ,
and washrooms. This is
the perfect spot to soak in
views of the pingos while
enjoying your picnic!
Afterwards, drive into Tuk
to get your picture in front
of the Arctic Ocean sign.
Also be sure to experience
the town’s history by
visiting all of the places on
the ‘must see’ list!
Let’s Stay the Night*
Check into a B & B or bring
your tent and camp. For
dinner, sample the local
cuisine at the restaurants
in town.
On the second day of your
Tuk adventure, book a
cultural tour with a local
operator; feel the waves of
the Arctic Ocean from the
seat of a boat. Experience
the rich cultural history of
the area.
Feel like exploring on your
own? Rent a canoe or kayak
for a paddling adventure
within the Pingo Canadian
Landmark! Stop in at
the boardwalk for lunch,
or paddle around Ibyuk,
one of North America’s
largest pingos! See Parks
Canada’s website for route
information.
