On August 16, 1896, gold was found in the Klondike sparking the Klondike Gold Rush.
Between 1896 and 1898 over 100,000 stampeders headed north to try their luck at
finding gold. About 30,000 made it all the way to the boomtown of Dawson City.
Steele Street is named after Sam Steele, the most famous Mountie ever to
work the north. He enlisted in the Northwest Mounted Police in 1874.
