TINTINA TRENCH
Tintina Trench marks one of the great faults
in western North America extending almost
1000 km from southeastern Yukon Territory to
Yukon Flats in Alaska. If you are travelling from
Dawson City, you most likely stopped at the
Tintina Trench Rest area Km 655.2 of the North
Klondike Highway.
Traditionally, Kaska Hunters would follow the
trench to move between hunting grounds.
This Route was also used by the first European
explorer in the Yukon, Robert Campbell, who
was led by Kaska guides Lapie and Kitza.
VAN GORDER FALLS
Van Gorder Falls, situated in Faro, Yukon,
is a striking natural attraction renowned
for its scenic beauty. The falls are formed
as the waters of Van Gorder Creek plunge
dramatically from a rocky canyon. Accessible
via the Van Gorder Falls Trail, a 3-kilometer
round-trip hike with a modest elevation
gain of 76 meters, visitors are treated to
a spectacular viewpoint from a lookout
platform. This vantage point offers an
unobstructed view of the falls, creating a
picturesque scene framed by the surrounding
Yukon wilderness. The falls are part of the
charming landscape of Faro and represent
a captivating destination for those seeking a
brief yet rewarding outdoor adventure.
PELLY RIVER
The Pelly originates in the Mackenzie
Mountains, flows 530 km to the Yukon River
and provides excellent recreational boating,
fishing, and canoeing opportunities.
FARO MINE
A drive up the road to the Faro Mine offers a
glimpse into the colossal scale of the mining
operations that once thrived here. While
the mine itself is not open to the public, the
journey grants you the chance to witness
ongoing remediation efforts. As you view
this area, you’ll gain insight into the historical
significance and environmental reclamation
work being carried out at this site.

WILDLIFE VIEWING
A new edition of the Viewing Wildlife in Faro
guide has been published in English and
German. The Faro area boasts one of the
highest concentrations of wildlife in Yukon.
The guide identifies some of the most easily
