Watson Lake is known as the Gateway to the Yukon. While Contact Creek is the first place you'll encounter driving into the Yukon, Watson Lake is the first major community. With a population of about 1,400 people it offers travellers year-round amenities including full service grocery store, recreation centre, a ski hill and scenic hiking/walking trails. 

Watson Lake is a popular stopover for people driving north to Alaska or people exploring the Yukon. Located right along the Alaska highway it is 510 kilometres north of Fort Nelson or 436 kilometres south of Whitehorse.
