George Black Ferry (Yukon River Crossing)

This free ferry connects Dawson City to the Top of the World Highway by carrying vehicles across the Yukon River. It operates 24 hours a day, with one weekly maintenance break on Thursdays from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.

When to Cross

The ferry is busiest at the following times:

  • Leaving Dawson City: 7:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
  • Entering Dawson City: 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

If you can, avoid travelling during these peak hours to help reduce wait times.

Priority Traffic

To keep essential travel moving smoothly:

  • Tour buses have priority: 6:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
  • Fuel trucks have priority: 7:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.

Travelling in Groups

If you’re travelling with a large group or caravan, check in advance for the best crossing times and ways to avoid long lineups.
